Ika Musume Ferrari - Part 1

First day with the Ika Musume Ferrari!

The first thing I wanted to work on was adding the vents on the hood. In GTC, there are two different vents which are not represented in the kit:

So I need to create them.

Previously Completed Models - II

1/24 Toyota 86 from Tamiya

I picked this up after several good reviews and videos on the web, and I was excited to build this.

This was very enjoyable to build thanks to the quality of Tamiya kits. For this kit, I had a lot of references, in particular a video series from Tamiya (all in Japanese) on ustream, and an episode from a Japanese show called Plamo Tsukurou.

Since I had just built a car, I was more comfortable with the painting etc. The most challenging part was the wheels. I also found out later that black is a hard body colour to perfect. I did not use surfacer before the black spray, and it shows. But I am satisfied with the clear coat.

The area I wished I could have added more detail was the engine. The kit did not come with any tubing, and I did not have any handy. I painted the alternator which added some details, but it could've been better.

Previously Completed Models - I

1/24 Aston Martin DBS from Tamiya

This is the first model I attempted since I restarted modelling this year.

I wanted to do this because
  1. I like the look of Aston Martins
  2. I like driving AM in Gran Turismo 5 (though they only have DB9 and V12 Vantage)
  3. It's one of the James Bond car.

The model being made by Tamiya, the quality and detail is superb, and it was enjoyable to build. This being the first one I've done, I definitely missed some crucial details such as dealing with parting lines in the body. Also, at the time of building this, I hadn't invested in airbrush, so everything was painted by regular brush (the body and chassis were painted using Tamiya spray cans).

Overall, I'm satisfied with the outcome as the first model to complete.
